As per the Population Research Centre India, “Health insurance coverage in rural India is 14.1%, which is lower than the 18% coverage in urban areas.”
Looking at the data, we can clearly see that insurance penetration in rural India remains significantly lower than in urban areas.
There are several factors contribute to this disparity:
Initially, this program will focus on five districts in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, covering 74 villages across 10 districts. The goal is to provide essential healthcare services, such as consultations with doctors and nurses, as well as preventive care, to underserved communities. The program will prioritize addressing non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, and promoting iron nutrition awareness.
